THE GAME OF CHANCE
Did you ever envy that person who won the lottery or that big sweepstake?
We have all experienced wanting to be debt free, take those luxurious cruises, and be set for life financially.
I've never considered myself to be lucky at chance. However, I keep buying those lottery tickets, play a scratch bingo card, and occasionally send in a sweepstake.
When I do hit on a chance ticket, I get very excited. I feel a short-lived high and do not understand why a whopping win of $5.00 would do that to me.
One day my friend invited me to go to a real casino. I have never been to a casino in my life. "Oh, come on she coaxed." "It will be fun, relaxing, and you just might hit the big one."
Escaping from the monotony of every day living and our stressful jobs, we set off.
Finally there, my friend had to tie me down.
I experienced the luxuries immediately. The bellhop took our luggage and directed us to our room. I thought I died and went to heaven. Lying on my double bed, I read the room directory offering room service, food buffets, live entertainment, and so much more.
We took the elevator to the gambling floor.
The atmosphere was unbelievable. People everywhere. Slot machines galore A winner at a poker table was jumping up and down, and another woman excitedly told me, "Can you believe that or what?" "What?, I asked. "That woman over there." "She was just walking around with her bucket of coins, and drops six coins in, and eight pulls later, she wins the jackpot for $10,000."
My adrenalin pumping, my heart racing, and with glazed eyes, I too select a machine. I don't know about luck, but I felt confident. I did my homework reading on how to play smart and how to select a machine.
With sweaty palms, I put two coins in, pulled the lever, got nothing. I kept repeating this, trying not to get discouraged. After two more hours, my friend guarded my machine while I used the restroom.
In my brief moment of panic, I couldn't find my friend or my machine. I kept waking around, watching others play, trying to look like I wasn't lost, but I was! When I finally found my friend and my machine, I was greeted with, "What took you so long"? "The line in the restroom was really long," I replied, trying to save face.
As I looked at my friend grinning, I asked her why my machine was flashing all over the place. There were several people standing around looking at the machine. I noticed there was a ticket on top of my machine. I continued to stand there dumb-founded, listening to the relentless "ding, ding, ding, ding," coming out of my machine!
Then this woman arrives, congratulating me. My friend was jumping up and down, and said, "I got bored while you were away, and slipped in some of your coins you had in the tray, and it hit a jackpot!"
On the drive home, I couldn't wipe the smile off my face. I had a great time, met new people, relaxed, and won some money. I won't retire on my winnings, but $800 was nothing to sneeze at.
Am I going to do this again? Wild horses couldn't keep me away!
